Lung Biology Center faculty members perform a wide range of basic, translational and patient-oriented studies relevant to pulmonary biology and disease. Most laboratories include a mix of scientists with basic research and clinical training and the approach of the Center is highly collaborative and multi-disciplinary. Current research programs address questions relevant to asthma, auto-immunity, pulmonary fibrosis (and fibrosis of other organs), acute lung injury, pulmonary emphysema, chronic bronchitis, lung cancer, mesothelioma, lung development and the effects of occupational and environmental agents on lung biology and disease. A major focus of the Lung Biology Center is the training of future world leaders in pulmonary biology and disease. Scientists from 23 countries and all geographic regions of the United States have obtained research training in the Lung Biology Center.
